Undoing a purchase or a bid

As long as the handover has not been confirmed, you can dissolve a purchase together — without disadvantage to anyone.

• You propose it and briefly write what happened. The other party sees exactly that text and decides on that basis.
• If they agree, it is cancelled: no fee is due and the listing becomes available again. There is no review and no mark against either side.
• If they decline, the purchase continues unchanged — and that settles it: a second suggestion is not provided for. Whoever does not want to dissolve the deal should have to say so once, not again and again. The other party can still make a suggestion of their own afterwards; that is their decision, not a follow-up.

You will find it in My purchases or in Incoming sales, right at the transaction concerned. Both sides are also notified by e-mail.

If you have already paid for a shipped purchase, your money is held in escrow by the payment provider. In that case we do not offer this route — and that is in your favour: a silent cancellation would leave the amount stranded. The transaction is then resolved through buyer protection, where your money is secured and flows back in an orderly way.

That is why the button is absent there. For collection and for unpaid shipping it is available as usual.

From the first bid on, a seller can no longer rewrite the listing. All that remains is attaching a dated addendum or adding images — and every bidder is notified about it.

If that makes the item look less valuable to you, you can ask to be released from your bid. The request requires a reason and is reviewed by hand; until it is decided, your bid remains binding. In the image gallery you can see which pictures were added after your bid.

If nothing was added after your bid, this request does not exist — which rules out withdrawing out of mere regret.

You can also ask without an addendum — after a typo in the amount, for instance. Here the seller decides: they see your reason and answer yes or no. A no ends the matter immediately and your bid stands.

If they say yes, Fundort removes the bid — not the seller. That sounds roundabout but has a reason: if a seller could remove bids themselves, auctions could be driven up risk-free from a second account.

• Leaving unilaterally. There is no route on which one side decides alone. Nor can anyone confirm their own proposal.
• Simply changing your mind. Withdrawing a bid because you thought better of it is not provided for — that is what a bid is.
• After the handover. Once a transaction is complete, it is complete. For defects there is the statutory warranty and, for shipped purchases, buyer protection.
• Just not turning up. Letting the appointment pass risks a negative review and, if repeated, a block. The mutual route costs you two sentences and has none of those consequences.
