Applying for a flat

For rental flats it is not the fastest click that decides, but the complete dossier. On Fundort you fill it in once and attach it to every application.

The dossier

Under Rental dossier in the member area you enter what every landlord asks: household, employment, income, current housing, pets, debt-register entries and a reference. If you are moving in as a couple or into a flatshare, you enter the other adults individually — with employment and income: for a couple both incomes count, and the landlord puts both on the contract. Household and employment are enough to start; everything else makes the dossier better. It stays saved — the second application then takes a minute. With Print you take the same sheet along to the viewing.

How to apply

A listing for a flat, house or room to rent has the button Apply for this flat (named accordingly for a house or room). There you attach your documents — debt-register extract, salary statement, ID —, say from when you can move in and write a few lines. Your dossier goes along automatically. You still request a viewing with the appointment button; both are possible, in any order. Commercial properties, offices, storage, parking spaces and land have no application — there you simply get in touch.

What happens to your documents

The files go to the landlord by e-mail and are only passed on — Fundort does not keep them. There is no archive anyone could dig them out of later, and therefore no download in your list either: it would be a link into the void. Your dossier is stored encrypted — which makes a database dump unreadable. It is not end-to-end encryption: Fundort is technically able to decrypt it, because it has to be shown to the landlord. Staff only see it case by case, only with a stated reason and only with a log entry. Only your dossier stays — the details you maintain yourself — plus a record: what, when, to whom. If you delete your dossier, applications already sent keep their copy; it is what the landlord received.

Reply, deadline and rejection

The landlord has 21 days to decide. If they accept someone, the other applicants receive a rejection saying the flat is taken — that is something else than a personal rejection, and it is worded differently. If they do not get in touch at all, we note no reply after the deadline: not a rejection, simply no answer. As long as nothing has been decided, you can withdraw your application yourself.

For landlords

Under Rental applications you see all applications for your properties, with the dossier as it arrived. You accept or decline, and you can invite to a viewing straight from the list. If you accept someone, Fundort offers to reject the other applicants automatically — with a notification and an e-mail, in their language. The number affected is shown in the window before you decide; you can also switch it off there, for instance if you want to keep a fallback.
