Quotes
For a service the price is rarely in the listing, and often it cannot be: what a painter costs depends on the flat. The quote turns that into a process with three steps — and with a result you can still read two weeks later.
The three steps
You describe the job and send the request. The provider replies with price, scope and validity. You accept or decline.
That sounds like what otherwise happens in the chat — and it is not. In a chat a figure ends up somewhere among twenty messages, and nobody remembers whether it included the material. Here it stands in one place, with what belongs to it, and with a date.
Ask three providers and you end up with three comparable quotes instead of three chat threads.
What belongs in a good request
The more precisely you describe it, the more binding the answer can be. “Paint the flat” gets you a rough price; “3.5 rooms, 78 m², walls and ceilings, flat is empty” gets you a fixed price.
Postcode and town are needed so the provider knows whether it falls within their area. We deliberately do not ask for the exact address — that is a matter for the agreement, not the enquiry.
Attachments help more than words: a photo of the damage, a floor plan, a list of defects. PDF and images, up to six files.
A word on what happens to the attachments: they go straight to the provider and are only passed on — Fundort does not keep them. All that stays in your account is WHAT you sent and when, not the content. A photo of your water damage does not belong on a marketplace. Your description and the provider’s reply are stored encrypted with us — which makes a database dump unreadable. It is not end-to-end encryption: staff can look case by case, but only with a stated reason and only with a log entry.
Fixed price, estimate, hourly rate — and validity
Every quote states the type of price alongside the figure. That is not red tape: «850» as a lump sum means something entirely different from «850 per hour», and that is exactly where disputes start.
• Fixed price — that is what it costs, unless the job changes.
• Estimate — a projection. It can move once it becomes clear what is really behind it.
• Hourly rate — the price per hour. How many hours it takes is still open.
Validity goes with it. A quote without a deadline is not one — material and schedules change. Once the deadline has passed you still see the price but can no longer accept it. Simply ask for a new one.
Accepting means agreeing
With your acceptance the agreement stands: this job at this price. Both sides get a confirmation by mail — a record only one side has would be no record.
What follows is between you: date, execution, invoice, payment. Fundort is not part of it and charges nothing for it. A service here is a list price like a property or a job — the provider pays their listing fee, and what you agree is none of our business. There is no commission.
That is also why there is no buyer protection and no escrow here. What you agree is an agreement between the two of you; we record what was quoted and accepted, and when, and nothing more.
When nothing happens
The provider has seven days to reply. If nothing comes, the case closes by itself — it should not sit in your list as «open» forever while you do not dare ask elsewhere. You will be told.
The same applies the other way round: if a quote’s validity runs out before you decide, it closes.
You can withdraw your request at any time, even after a quote has arrived — as long as you have not accepted, you are committed to nothing. And the provider can revise their quote; the old one stays readable so it is clear later what was quoted first.
A day before the deadline we remind the side that is up — so a case does not lapse by accident. If it lapses anyway, both sides are told: whoever was waiting should know they can look elsewhere.
Where there is no quote
It does not make sense for every service. Where the price is already in the listing — a tutoring hour, a massage, a course — you would get an answer you have long since read. There the button does not appear at all.
Nor for wanted ads: there someone is looking for a service, not offering one. A quote request would run backwards.
Which fields those are is set per subcategory. If the button is missing and you think it belongs there, write to us.
