How renting works

How to rent items or property for a period – and how to rent out your own.

1. Check the rental and terms

Check the rental period, price and – if stated – the deposit (for information only). Depending on the category, certain units are allowed. When choosing the period you set the start and end in the rate's unit; you only enter a time of day for hourly rentals – for day, week or month the date is enough.

2. Request and brokerage

Send your request through Fundort. As the renter you pay Fundort nothing — the flat brokerage fee is borne by the owner. They confirm your request, propose a different period or decline; the contact details are released only once they confirm. If your request stays unanswered, it expires automatically once the requested period begins — it cannot be fulfilled by then anyway, and you get a decline instead of waiting indefinitely.

3. Handover

Handover, return and status run via emails and notifications; use the chat with the provider for follow-up questions.

4. Cancellation terms

The cancellation terms stated by the provider in the listing apply.

5. As a landlord: receiving a request

As soon as someone makes a request, you get a notification and an email. You'll find the request in your member area under Rentals.

6. As a landlord: confirm, decline or propose another period

You confirm the request, decline it, or propose a different period. Confirming releases the contact details and the flat brokerage fee arises — you do not pay it up front: it appears on your next invoice once the rental has run. With a counter-proposal, the renter decides whether to accept.

7. As a landlord: handover, return and cancellation

You arrange handover and return directly with each other; each side confirms the handover itself. As soon as one of those confirmations exists, the rental can neither be cancelled nor reported as a no-show — the item is with the renter from then on, and the rental ends through the return, which you report as the landlord. A termination is something you arrange directly between you — Fundort is not part of it and does not calculate any notice periods; simply report the return once the rental is over. The brokerage fee is earned as soon as the contact details are released: if either side cancels later, or the renter fails to show up, it still stands. It stays free of charge in one case only: when the request is declined or cancelled before the contact details are released.
