Offers & negotiation

On classified listings whose price is marked negotiable, you can offer the seller your own price. If they accept, the purchase is made immediately — exactly like buying outright, only at the negotiated amount.

When can I make an offer?

Only on sale listings where the seller chose the price type negotiable. You can tell by the note next to the price and the «Make an offer» button. Auctions have no offers — there you place bids.

An offer is binding

This is the key point: if the seller accepts your offer, the purchase is concluded. You cannot reconsider afterwards. That is why we ask you once more before sending and name the amount you are committing to, shipping included. As long as nobody has accepted, you can withdraw your offer at any time.

How the negotiation works

You name an amount; it cannot exceed the listing price, because at that point you could simply buy. The seller can accept, counter, decline, or decline permanently. After a counter-offer it is your turn again and you can accept or decline. You have three offers per listing; the seller’s counter-offers do not count. An offer expires after 48 hours without a reply. If the seller declines permanently, you cannot make another offer on that listing.

Shipping, postage and buyer protection

What is negotiated is always the item price. The seller’s shipping costs are added unchanged — you see the total before you send. For shipping there is a lower limit on the item price: below it there is no buyer protection, so offers below that amount are not possible — the form shows you the exact minimum. For pickup this limit does not apply. If the seller changes the shipping cost while your offer is pending, acceptance is aborted — you should not pay something you did not agree to.

For sellers: the minimum offer

When you post a listing you can optionally set a minimum offer. It is not shown to buyers. Offers below it are declined automatically, without the buyer learning your limit — and without notifying you. The buyer does not use up one of their three regular offers, because they could not see the rule. Since the limit could otherwise be narrowed down by trial and error, the automatically declined attempts are capped at three as well; after that the buyer is out for this listing. Leave the field empty and every offer reaches you.

Notifications

Every reply to your own offer — accepted, declined, counter-offer — always arrives by e-mail. As a seller you are also notified by e-mail about every incoming offer; you see it in the app regardless. So that nobody can bury you in offers, a daily cap per member applies across all listings — once it is reached, that person can only offer again the next day. All pending and completed negotiations are under «Offers» in the member area, with the full history.
